Loudon Homestead Interiors

In 2009 the owners of an unoccupied and dilapidated homestead at Teddington on Banks Peninsula approached Sheppard & Rout with a common predicament; restore the existing, or start afresh and build a new home.  With its original 1860’s charm and location on a fine site surrounded by many mature trees and outbuildings, it was agreed it would be sacrilegious to demolish the homestead.

The resulting homestead is a unique complex comprising of the original house fully strengthened and re-planned with an intimate extension using similar building forms and materials to the original with simple and clean lines. The adjacent workers’ accommodation has been linked to the home and converted into one grand room lined with bookshelves and French doors opening to new verandahs. The homestead is a focal point of the site of the biannual ‘Sculpture of the Peninsula’ exhibition.
