Sheppard & Rout practice with an 19-strong team out of our central Christchurch studio. We ensure close working relationships between all staff and partner involvement in every commission to retain a high design quality and technical competence on all projects.

    After graduating from the Auckland University Architecture School in 1993, Tim rejoined Sheppard & Rout where he had previously trained as an Architectural Draughting Technician. In 2006 Tim, along with Jasper van der Lingen, joined David Sheppard as a Director of the practice.

    Since returning to Sheppard & Rout Tim has been Design and Project Architect on a diverse range of projects, including numerous residential projects in locations including Christchurch, Wanaka and Queenstown.

    Healthcare projects include numerous projects on the Christchurch, Hillmorton and Burwood Hospital campuses including the role as project architect on the $215m Burwood Hospital Redevelopment.

    Other projects Tim has been project director on include a variety of projects at the Christchurch International Airport and various apartments and multi-residential projects in Wellington and Lower Hutt.

    Tim brings to any project strong skills in facilitation, documentation and teamwork alongside a deep understanding of client and user needs. Tim has an overall QA review role from a technical and coordination point of view for most projects leaving the office.

    Since graduating from the Auckland Architecture School in 1988 Jasper has worked in a number of architecture firms in New Zealand and abroad, including a three year period in London. There he worked on architectural projects associated with significant infrastructure works such as the Channel Tunnel and the Jubilee Line Extension. Along with Tim Dagg, Jasper joined David Sheppard as a Director of Sheppard & Rout in 2006.

    After joining Sheppard & Rout in 1993, Jasper has worked as Design and Project Architect on large complex jobs, including the Christchurch International Airport Expansion, Burwood Hospital, School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University, and most recently the multi award-winning Stranges Building, BNZ Centre and the Spark building in Cathedral Square. Jasper is particularly interested in how buildings are integrated into a context and help form the unique identity, memory and cultural setting of a place.

    Jasper was the Chairman of the New Zealand Institute of Architects Canterbury branch from 2010 to 2012 and was a member of the NZIA Council from 2015-2017. He was the convenor of the NZIA National Architecture Awards in 2016 and is currently a member of the Christchurch Council, Lyttleton and Nelson Urban Design Panels.

    Since graduating from the University of Auckland School of Architecture in 2005, Joff has worked at some of New Zealand’s top architectural firms. After spending three years in London working for an established architecture firm, he returned to New Zealand to rejoin Sheppard & Rout.

    Joff has worked on a varied range of projects, including lead design, documentation and management of residential, commercial and educational projects.

    Having worked on large scale residential projects in London, Joff has developed his experience with the design of award-winning houses, commercial and educational projects in New Zealand. Joff currently continues his experience with multi-residential and education projects, with a particular interest in efficient form and design.

    Steven undertook his architectural studies at both the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and the Bauhaus Universitat, Weimar, Germany. He spent the initial part of his career working in Glasgow, UK for Nord Architecture. Steven joined Sheppard & Rout in early 2011.

    At Sheppard & Rout, Steven enjoys the variety that comes with working on both large scale commercial projects and complex individual houses. He has successfully delivered complex projects from feasibility assessment to completion. He works alongside his clients developing a close and trusting relationship to ensure a successful outcome for each of his projects.

    Since graduating from the University of Auckland School of Architecture 1999, Matt has gained a broad experience in architecture, working in practices in Hawkes Bay and London. In 2004 he returned to New Zealand to join Sheppard & Rout.

    Matt has worked on a varied range of projects since joining Sheppard & Rout, including lead design, documentation, and management of residential, commercial, healthcare, public, community, and education projects. Having worked on large education projects in London, Matt has developed this experience through key roles in the Landscape Architecture building & Te Kete Ika Kitchen & Dining Hall at Lincoln University.

    Other key projects include the Burwood Hospital Redevelopment main entry building and several commercial, retail and hospitality buildings in central Christchurch, including the replacement Stranges/Glendenning building at the corner of High and Lichfield Streets and the Spark Offices on Cathedral Square.

    Recently completed projects include the ANZCO & FMG commercial offices & master planning development at Christchurch Airport, Majestic Church development in Durham St, Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa development in Methven & the South Brighton Surf Club rebuild.

    Matt has a strong interest in the use of natural materials and the tectonics of detailing modern buildings while incorporating passive environmental design.
