Jasper and Renée speak at Woodworks Conference
We were thrilled to present at the recent Woodworks conference in Rotorua alongside Renée Williamson from Arthouse Architects.
During our session, we shared the development journey of our highly sustainable two-storey mass timber classroom block model, highlighting our continuous improvements and optimizations along the way. Our goal has been to create a repeatable, modular, flexible, prefabricated ‘kit of parts’ design that not only sequesters carbon but also supports the local New Zealand building and forestry industries, while providing an inspiring biophilic learning environment for the students of Aotearoa.
Our journey began in 2018 with the Waimea College R block stage 1, followed by enhancements for stage 2 at Waimea in 2021. We’re now advancing to the Motueka High School block, set for completion in November 2024.
Each project represents a significant step in evolving our model, with the aim of maximizing sustainability while ensuring economic viability and versatility for various applications across the country. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Woodworks, particularly John Stulen, for organizing such an engaging conference filled with inspiring presentations that illuminated both the opportunities and challenges within the mass timber building industry.
