The house was for a couple in a new subdivision on the lower slopes of the Port Hills in Christchurch. The brief was for a three bedroom property that made the most of the site, views and was a robust, durable, and good looking design that fit well into its context.

The house is designed to have two main parts – a bedroom wing and two level living area with the master bedroom at mezzanine level. To minimise its visual impact on the land the large garage was embedded into the site with a green roof over. One of the main elements of the design is the dramatic folded roof hovering above. The folds echo the hills behind, and it is placed to be high over the entry and bedroom and low over the terrace to provide more intimacy and sun shading.
