This is a private house for a couple who were after a modest, unpretentious but carefully detailed private home on a steep hillside overlooking Godley Head.  They requested a main living area that was connected to the ground, was sunny and allowed external areas away from the prevailing easterly with three bedrooms above.

The house responds to the brief and dramatic coastline beyond by sensuously bending and curving in plan similar to the bays and headlands below to respond to the nuances of the site and brief.

The building purposefully turns its back to the road behind, for privacy reasons, with minimal slit windows allowing glimpses only while opening out on the other side to the east and the view.

It is a house of mystery that carefully unveils itself as you move inside and through.  A journey of exploration and discovery which finishes with the revelation of the drama of where it is.
